Lego bricks, TV remotes and a door handle are among objects removed from patients' bottoms at English hospitals

More than 1,500 people went to A&E in 2022 with an object stuck in their rectum. In Berkshire, doctors pulled out a boiled egg, a potato and a Coke can, and removed a deodorant bottle and a toilet brush handle from one patient at the same time. Birmingham-area hospitals logged repeat visits for a phone and a coat hanger. Only 11 of 106 trusts gave itemised lists.

Staff in Lewisham and Greenwich removed Lego bricks wrapped in balloons and a toothbrush.

Knives, razor blades, a snow globe and a wallpaper scraper also made the list.

Northwick Park A&E consultant Chris Nordstrom urged patients to get help promptly to avoid 'further injury'.
