E-bike rental giant Lime has awarded £886,857 to nine London boroughs to create 586 new parking bays, as complaints mount over bikes dumped on pavements and blocking pedestrians. The firm is now offering a further £1m to councils, with applications open until October 22. Lime previously pulled bikes from one borough after a blind man was forced into a busy road by badly parked bicycles.
The Mayor of London has announced a capital-wide crackdown on what he called the 'Wild West approach' to e-bike parking.
Lime says its total 2026 parking investment will hit around £1.5m, part of a wider £20m London Action Plan, with bays open to rival operators Forest and Voi.
A survey of 1,000 Londoners found one in five would be more likely to use shared e-bikes if safer parking were available at their destination.
