Liz Truss claims 'unelected bureaucrats' hold the real power in Westminster and MPs are 'lying' about how powerful they are

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has launched a sweeping assault on Britain's political class, claiming elected MPs are "lying about how powerful they are" while unelected officials dictate real policy. Her remarks came during a podcast interview tied to her new book, 'Bank Job', in which she also blamed the Bank of England — not her own mini-budget — for the 2022 market turmoil that ended her 49-day premiership. Truss pointed to high taxation, migration and energy costs as the forces holding Britain back, and said the system "doesn't want to change."
Truss told her interviewer: "The bureaucrats have the power — MPs are really beholden to them."
She also accused the Bank of England of sabotaging her government by launching quantitative tightening during the 2022 crisis.
Piers Morgan pressed her on the lettuce stunt; she dismissed it as "a puerile joke" and insisted Britain remains "in a massive state of crisis."
