The medical team who saved paramedic Gareth Hopkins, 43, at mile 25 in April were there to cheer him over the line on November 2nd. Hopkins, of the East of England Ambulance Service, collapsed with one mile left, having texted his wife, Jodie Hopkins, at mile 16 that his calves felt as though they would explode.

Age UK was the cause: Gareth Hopkins, a paramedic, had raised over £13,000 in his grandmother's memory.

St Thomas' Hospital staff applauded paramedic Gareth Hopkins out with a donated medal; race rules barred an official one.

'I never thought he would,' said Jodie Hopkins, nurse practitioner wife of paramedic Gareth Hopkins.
