A London Overground driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after his out-of-service train hit a buffer stop at Liverpool Street Station at around 1am on Thursday and partially derailed. The driver was later discharged, but the collision closed platforms 1, 2 and 3 and triggered a day of widespread disruption across multiple routes. Rory O'Neill, Transport for London's General Manager for London Overground, confirmed a full investigation is under way. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch sent an inspector to the scene to gather evidence.

Greater Anglia cancelled or diverted services to Stansted Airport, Cambridge North and Hertford East throughout Thursday.

Weaver line services between Liverpool Street and Chingford faced severe delays expected to carry into Friday as repair work continues.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch says it will decide whether to launch a formal investigation once it has reviewed the evidence gathered at the scene.
