Lorry driver is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, almost two years after a fatal Leicestershire crash

William Roberts, 48, a lorry driver from Atherton, Manchester, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after his Volvo heavy tractor arctic lorry collided with a BMW on the A447 Hinckley Road in Cadeby on 21 November 2024. Edward Humphreys, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, with no other injuries reported. Roberts is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday 2 November.

The collision was investigated by Leicestershire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, led by Detective Sergeant Jack Cornick.

Officers were called to the A447 just after 12.30pm on the day of the crash, following reports involving an HGV with a trailer and a BMW.

The charge comes almost two years after Humphreys' death, following what police described as a full investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
