The southbound M6 between Spaghetti Junction (J6) and Castle Bromwich (J5) was fully closed from 4pm on Saturday after a single van caught fire and shed diesel across the carriageway. National Highways was on scene by 3:35pm; two lanes reopened at 6:30pm and the road was fully clear by 7:30pm.

No injuries were reported, and the incident involved only one vehicle.

Drivers faced up to an hour's delay at the peak of the disruption, with 30-minute queues persisting after partial reopening.

Diversions sent traffic via the A5127 southbound, B4137 eastbound and A47 Heartlands Parkway to rejoin the M6 at J5.
