M6 southbound at Birmingham's Spaghetti Junction was shut for more than two hours after a van fire and 'significant' diesel spill

The M6 southbound was brought to a complete halt near Birmingham's Spaghetti Junction following a van fire, with the motorway fully reopened at around 19:30 on Saturday after more than three hours of disruption. National Highways received the call at 15:35 and confirmed only one vehicle was involved. No injuries were reported. Two lanes were restored at 18:30, with full clearance coming an hour later.
The closure affected the southbound carriageway between junction six at Gravelly Hill Interchange and junction five near Castle Bromwich.
Approaching drivers faced delays of up to 60 minutes while emergency crews treated the road surface and removed the stricken vehicle.
Traffic was diverted via the A5127 southbound and A47 eastbound to rejoin the M6 at junction five.
