M60 is shut in both directions between Prestwich and Simister Island during rush hour due to a police incident

Greater Manchester Police shut a section of the M60 in both directions during the morning rush hour, with North West Ambulance Service and fire crews also attending. National Highways advised that delays in excess of 30 minutes should be anticipated, with three miles of queuing building up on the approaches to the closure.

The closure affects the stretch between Junction 17 at Prestwich and Junction 18 at Simister Island.

The Bolton News reports police have issued a welfare incident update, suggesting concern for a person at the scene.

Drivers are urged to find alternative routes as congestion continues to grow.
