France is to deploy 70,000 police and shut the Louvre on Saturday as Macron blames 'ultra-left groups' for riots
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez warned 'we are not talking about a peaceful, friendly demonstration' and vowed to 'not tolerate anything'. Helicopters, armoured vehicles and water cannon will back the officers. The Louvre, the Orsay, the Picasso museum and the Grand Palais will all close. Last weekend looters rampaged through Paris, Marseille and Lyon, and Limoges town hall was set on fire.
President Emmanuel Macron blamed 'ultra-left groups whose aim is to bring down the Republic'.
Justice minister Gerald Darmanin says at least 217 people have been jailed after fast-track trials.
Looting victim Michele Teboul told Macron: 'Next Saturday is your last chance to save France.'
