Mamdani says Trump will grant a visa so the mother of a Ghanaian teen killed in the Bronx can mourn

Javits Frimpong, 15, was shot in the stomach on his way to school in the Bronx's Claremont neighbourhood on Thursday and later died in hospital. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called Trump directly and secured an immediate visa so Frimpong's mother can fly from Ghana to be at her son's side one last time.

Frimpong's father, Thomas, 60, told reporters his son had been bullied at DreamYard Preparatory School and believes it is linked to the killing.

Ghana's Foreign Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa says Ghanaian consular staff in New York are working alongside local authorities to pursue justice.
