Mahammed Islam, a student from Stepney in east London, entered Glaslyn Lake on 26 September during a walk with his brother along the popular Pyg Track route below Yr Wyddfa — Snowdon — and got into difficulties. Emergency services were called at around 19:00 BST, and Llanberis Mountain Rescue conducted an initial search that evening. His body was brought up by underwater search divers the next day; a post-mortem examination found drowning to be the provisional cause of death.

Islam made a journey of over 200 miles from London to Eryri National Park for the trip.

Senior coroner Kate Robertson adjourned the inquest pending further investigations.

His family described him as a 'bright and remarkable young man with a promising future ahead of him'.
