Man, 24, who visited a porn site minutes before the 999 call is guilty of murdering his girlfriend's baby in Kent

Tyla Wharmby, 24, of Ramsgate, Kent, was convicted at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He had dealt catastrophic head injuries to 13-week-old Hunter Hodges, who had been born prematurely and weighed just over 10lb; the baby died that afternoon from a fractured skull and severe brain swelling. Investigators established that Wharmby had misled police about events leading up to the 999 call, and that he had on a previous occasion harmed Hunter in a manner consistent with violent shaking.
Hunter's mother Shannon told the 999 handler his head was 'really, really squishy' and that he screamed every time she touched it.
The court heard Hunter's injuries matched those seen in 'a high-speed motorcycle collision or a multi-level fall', not the care of an overnight babysitter.
A sentencing date has yet to be set; Detective Inspector Adam Marshall said the verdict exposed 'the truth behind Wharmby's lies'.
