Man, 38, killed in a Dublin knife attack may have been targeted in revenge over an alleged altercation last week

Members of the public alerted gardaí after finding the man bleeding on the footpath at Blackhorse Place, Dublin 7, in the early hours of Sunday. He was rushed to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he later died. Gardaí believe a knife or other bladed weapon was used between 2am and 3.30am. A manhunt is under way for those responsible.

Sinn Féin councillor Séamas McGrattan said: 'Knife crime has become a real problem in our city.'

He called for more gardaí on the streets so people can walk Dublin 'without fear'.

The busy road was closed while the Garda Technical Bureau examined the scene.
