A 41-year-old man died shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday after leading Bedfordshire Police on a chase along the A5183 near Caddington and losing control of his grey Audi. Officers had first noticed the car running without headlights on High Street South in Dunstable at around 10.30pm and tried to pull it over. The driver did not stop, and within seven minutes the Audi had left the road and hit a tree. The collision involved no other vehicles.

A cordon was put in place on the A5 from the Kensworth Turn northbound to Caddington southbound while emergency services dealt with the scene.

Officers gave first aid but could not save the driver; his family has since been informed and is being supported.
