Man, 47, is charged with murdering his partner Loredana Morosanu in Dublin and appears in court without a lawyer

Daniel Simion Toader, 47, a Romanian national, was charged on Tuesday evening with the murder of Loredana Morosanu, 48, at the home they shared on Melville Terrace, Finglas, shortly after midnight on Monday 26 October. Judge Máire Conneely presided over a late special sitting of Dublin District Court at which the two-minute hearing concluded with Toader remanded in custody; he is due to appear at Cloverhill District Court on 3 November via video-link.

Morosanu, a pharmacy worker originally from Romania who had spent a number of years living in Ireland, was found fatally injured at 4.30am and died at the scene.

Toader made 'no reply' when charged, and appeared without legal representation — most Dublin criminal law solicitors have withdrawn services over reforms to legal aid payments that came into effect in July.

During his time in Garda custody ahead of the hearing, Toader received eight separate consultations with a solicitor; murder charges cannot be granted bail at District Court level.
