Man, 61, is arrested on suspicion of murder after woman, 47, who crashed into Bridgend wall had UNRELATED injuries

Armed officers and swat teams climbed onto the roof of Ger-y-Nant, a 13-flat sheltered housing complex for over-60s, before the arrest. Eyewitness Darren Owen, 33, saw police lead a man out at about 1am. The driver, from North Cornelly, hit the wall on Coity Road at 12:43pm on Monday and later died in hospital. Neighbours were displaced overnight and told to 'sign in and out' of their homes.

Ch Supt Jason Rees called it 'a deeply distressing incident' and thanked the community.

Her family has been told, but formal identification has not yet taken place.

Owen said the retirement home was the 'last place I expected to see armed police'.
