Clifford Foster, of Bridgend, is due before Newport Magistrates' Court on Friday accused of murdering Eleanor Barnfield, a 47-year-old mother-of-two. She was stabbed at the Ger-y-Nant retirement complex run by Valleys to Coast, where she worked. She managed only around 300 yards before collapsing at the wheel and hitting a wall on Coity Road. Police say it is not being treated as a domestic incident.

A man barricaded himself in a room at the complex, sparking an armed stand-off and evacuation.

The Welsh Ambulance Service denied claims she drove because of a three-hour ambulance wait.

Her family said: 'Mum was the kindest, most loving bravest person in the world.'
