George Gordon, 65, of St Helens, Merseyside, admits killing Delia McInerney, 62, but claims self-defence — prosecutors told Liverpool Crown Court he hatched a premeditated plan, buying a sledgehammer, drugs and a surgical handbook in the weeks before her death. He then dismembered her body and kept the parts in a chest freezer together with the bodies of her five guinea pigs, the jury heard.
For 18 months Gordon impersonated McInerney, sending messages and emails to deceive her friends and family.
He drained money from her bank accounts and fraudulently opened credit cards and loans in her name, the court heard.
Police did not find the remains until January 2026, when questions about McInerney's whereabouts prompted an investigation — nearly three years after her death.
