Man, 66, admits murdering a mother-of-four who was stabbed in the back in a Newport street as her family weeps

Albert Williams, of Ruperra Street, Newport, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday to murdering Charlene Dowsell, 41. Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke told him the only possible sentence is life imprisonment. He will be sentenced on 21 December. A post-mortem found a stab wound to her left back that pierced her lung, stomach and liver.

Police were called at 01:37 on 18 July after reports a woman was bleeding.

She was pronounced dead near Chepstow Road at 03:15 and identified by her father.

Her family's tribute read: 'Four children without a mum is just heartbreaking.'
