Pensioner, 68, denies murdering a mother-of-one in an Irvine park and will stand trial more than 30 years later

Among the 16 charges Kilpatrick faces are allegations including the sexual assault of a woman and a young girl. Prosecutors also claim he scalded a child with boiling water and held a lit flame against three others. Donald Findlay KC entered not guilty pleas to every charge at the High Court in Glasgow. Lord Arthurson set the trial for January 31 2028.

Shona Stevens, 31, was allegedly struck with a hammer in Bourtreehill Park in November 1994.

She died three days later, leaving daughter Candice, who was just seven.

Kilpatrick was charged in July 2025, a year after Crimestoppers offered a £20,000 reward.
