Man accused of raping a woman who was drugged by her husband tells court he thought her snoring was 'role-play'

Richard Wilkins, a 62-year-old taxi driver from Swindon, told Winchester Crown Court he saw Joanne Young shackled and blindfolded on a bed before having sex with her, insisting he genuinely believed she was awake and consenting. Philip Young, her husband, has already admitted more than 50 charges of drugging and sexually abusing Joanne over 13 years, having advertised her on Craigslist and swinger sites.
Wilkins said he heard no 'drug paraphernalia' in the room and detected no smell of alcohol, so never suspected she had been sedated.
A second defendant, Connor Sanderson-Doyle, 32, told the court Young was a 'vile monster' who used respondents as 'pawns in his sick little game.'
Three further men — Norman Macksoni, Mohammed Hassan and Dean Hamilton — are also on trial or have admitted charges relating to the same sustained abuse of Joanne Young.
