Man dies and girl, one, is fighting for life after a van crashes into a broken-down car on Hampshire's A34

The van driver, a 33-year-old from Walsall, was arrested over suspected careless driving that caused death and serious injury, and is now on bail until 4 December. The Citroen's driver, a man in his 40s, died at the scene near Sutton Scotney Services at 3.13pm on Friday. A woman and a second child in the car were also hurt. Detectives are now appealing for dashcam footage.

The Citroen Grand C4 Picasso had broken down between Upper Bullington and Worthy Down.

Police want witnesses who saw the stranded car before the Mercedes Sprinter struck it.

Det Sgt Oliver Cahill-Smith said pre-crash footage "could be just as important" as the collision itself.
