A man described as being in his late 50s or early 60s was pronounced dead at the scene after members of the public dragged him from the water at Durley Chine Beach in Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon. Dorset Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, and his family has been informed. Coastguard teams, police officers and paramedics all responded, with roughly ten emergency vehicles arriving on the promenade.

Bournemouth influencer James Edward Lees was among those who helped haul the man onto dry land before sprinting to fetch a wall-mounted defibrillator.

Lees dialled 999 at 3.47pm after spotting the man half in and half out of the water, telling bystanders to place him in the recovery position while awaiting paramedics.

'I've never run so fast in my life,' Lees said, describing his desperate dash to retrieve the defibrillator from a nearby beachfront venue.
