Man is jailed for six years for killing his father on Christmas Eve hours after learning he was his son

'You're my dad but I don't want to know you,' Martin Greensmith, 37, told Steven Shevels, 61, at The Queen's Head in Willington, County Durham. His mother had only just revealed who the drunk man near their table was. In the beer garden, Greensmith delivered a 'powerful and aggressive push', and Shevels cracked his head on the concrete. Jurors rejected his claim that it was a 'gentle push' in self-defence.

Daughter Chloe Shevels learned of his death 'through gossip' while opening her presents.

Greensmith fled the pub, and police found he had searched 'involuntary manslaughter' online.

One witness said the fall sounded 'like dropping a coconut on concrete'.
