Man is shot by armed police at a Bristol address before negotiators had even arrived at the scene

The man, in his 40s, is in a stable condition with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. Armed officers went to Fishponds Road in Eastville after a member of the public reported seeing what looked like a firearm just before 5.30pm on Thursday. Avon and Somerset Police has referred itself to the IOPC. No arrests have been made and no officers were hurt.

Police say the man's next of kin remain unlocated.

Supt Matt Ebbs called the job of firearms officers 'incredibly challenging'.

A cordon remains in place, and extra patrols will be seen over the coming days.
