Anthony Kazmierczak, 56, was sentenced to 14 months in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to assaulting a US officer by spraying apple cider vinegar from a syringe at Democrat congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a January town hall in Minneapolis. Omar told reporters the attacker was furious that Trump's deportation orders were not removing enough Somalis fast enough, adding: "He wanted to come get the person he thought was protecting the Somalis."
FBI searches revealed that in the weeks before purchasing tickets to the event, Kazmierczak had looked into Omar's security detail, bail bond companies and assault statutes.
Judge Joan Ericksen ruled the attack was premeditated, not spontaneous — Kazmierczak had also arranged dog care and bail contacts before attending.
LaTrisha Vetaw, a Minneapolis Council Member struck by the same vinegar spray, vomited after the attack; Kazmierczak's brother described him as a "right-wing extremist."
