Man 'murdered 60-year-old retiree, moved his family into the retiree's Leicester home and drained his pension'

Ibrahim Yosif, 44, is charged with murdering Gary Piatek, 60, who was last seen following a night of drinking in Leicester in April 2024 and has not been located since. Yosif allegedly moved his wife and relatives into Piatek's house on Broad Avenue in Evington, stripped and renovated it, and systematically drained the victim's bank accounts. Prosecutor Harpreet Sandhu KC told Leicester Crown Court that Yosif's family took the savings 'because they were confident that Gary would never say a thing'. Yosif and co-defendant Omed Firuzmand, 25, of Bournemouth, each deny murder and preventing a lawful burial.

Gary Piatek had lived an 'unassuming life' on the same Evington street for almost all of his life and had quietly retired on a pension that 'more than adequately' met his needs.

Yosif began renovating Piatek's house 'within days' of his disappearance, 'completely transforming' it before his family moved in within weeks.

Eight defendants in total face charges relating to Piatek's disappearance — his body has never been found.
