Martin Greensmith, 37, told Steven Shevels, 61, 'You're my dad but I don't want to know you' at The Queen's Head in Willington, County Durham. Later, in the beer garden, he gave the drunk Shevels a 'powerful and aggressive push' that sent him crashing onto the concrete. One witness said it sounded 'like dropping a coconut on concrete'. Jurors rejected his self-defence claim and convicted him of manslaughter.

Daughter Chloe Shevels learned of his death 'through gossip' while opening presents.

Police found Greensmith had searched online for 'involuntary manslaughter' and for solicitors.

Judge Jonathan Carroll said Shevels posed 'absolutely no risk or threat' to Greensmith.
