Jordan Longworth, 24, of Horwich, elbowed one officer in the face and hurled repeated racist abuse at a petrol station worker from the back of a police van, carrying on in custody. Yet Preston Magistrates Court gave him just 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months, plus a four-month alcohol treatment programme, a rehabilitation activity requirement and £200 compensation.

Two other men fled before police arrived, leaving Horwich man Jordan Longworth the only person officers could question.

Lancashire Police say every hate crime report is treated with the utmost seriousness and fully investigated.

Breach the terms within the year and Jordan Longworth, 24, faces immediate imprisonment.
