Man who stormed a Jewish wedding on 'hate spree' shouting 'Jews are murderers' is spared jail with a community order

Joseph Nixon, a 43-year-old chef from Armagh, asked best man Jack Surpree whether he supported Palestine, then Israel, before shouting 'You Jewish bastards.' The abuse came at Liverpool's Adelphi Hotel at 12.45am on September 15 last year, with Surpree's teenage sister beside him. Nixon was found guilty of racially or religiously aggravated harassment. Magistrates heard he had himself faced discrimination over his Irish Catholic background.
Nixon burst into the function room as guests heard 'you guys are killing babies'.
Surpree's parents had saved 'for years' to pay for the wedding.
The best man said: 'All I could see was hatred and evil.'
