Man who texted nude photos of dying FIT student to friends instead of calling 911, feds allege
Moises Freire, 19, of the Bronx, allegedly supplied Annabel Richter, 19, and her roommate with fentanyl disguised as cocaine in their Manhattan dorm room on 18 March, then waited 45 minutes before contacting campus security. Richter, a Brazilian first-year student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, lost consciousness and died three days later. Federal prosecutors allege Freire sexually assaulted her while she was incapacitated and told security the two women had merely drunk too much. A second man, Brian Peralta Cabrera, 18, of Queens, allegedly provided the fentanyl to Freire.
A week earlier Freire had taken the same drug himself, texted a friend that it was 'poison' and 'not cocaine' — yet told Richter and her roommate it was 'pure coke.'
Richter's mother Flavia Rocha called her daughter 'full of life' with 'contagious laughter', and said: 'I hope Annabel's story brings awareness, and meets justice.'
Freire remains held without bail and is set for trial in March 2027; Cabrera faces a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance resulting in death.
