Man with learning difficulties who mistook Prince William for the singer Prince writes to say sorry for 'Purple Rain' request
Sebastian Smith, 22, who has Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome and severe learning difficulties, has written a letter of apology to Prince William after mistaking the heir to the throne for the late pop star Prince during a royal visit to Sweet Surprise café in Ilminster, Somerset, on 6 October. William told the story on 'The Graham Norton Show' on 23 October, recounting how Sebastian asked him when he would perform, prompting a staff member to say 'No, no, he's not that prince.' Sebastian's family say he is loving the attention the story has generated.
Sebastian's mother Claire said he is a massive fan of Prince the singer and can list all of his songs and knows every lyric.
William told Norton's audience he was asked to sing 'Purple Rain' — a song he admitted he does not know the lyrics to.
Claire said Sebastian 'is a bundle of joy' and the family were simply amazed his short conversation with the royal gained such huge publicity.
