Manhunt is launched for a gunman after a man in his 30s is 'shot multiple times' near Woolwich's Royal Artillery Barracks

The victim, who was shot on Frances Street, Woolwich, shortly after 8pm on Thursday, remains in hospital in a critical condition under police guard. London's Air Ambulance transported him to an east London hospital after paramedics attended to a head injury at the scene. Armed officers and a dog unit combed the area without locating a suspect. Close to 24 hours later, nobody has been arrested.

Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage while forensics teams scour the scene for bullet casings.

Police say they do not believe the shooting is connected to the barracks, which lies 600 metres away.

Social media users who witnessed the incident say shots rang out near a busy bus stop.
