Marco Rubio arrives in India's Jamnagar to pitch Venezuelan crude to Reliance at the world's largest refinery complex
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has branded India a 'refining superpower' that can process heavy Venezuelan oil. The Jamnagar complex in Gujarat is run by billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries. Rubio is due to tour the refinery and Ambani's Vantara wildlife centre on Wednesday. Washington is pressing New Delhi to cut its dependence on Russian oil and buy more American energy.
Rubio says India-US trade talks are '99% of the work' done, with a deal weeks away.
Rubio met Indian foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Rubio told reporters: 'Countries fight wars over energy.'
