Mariah Carey defeats her brother's $20m defamation lawsuit over memoir claims he sold cocaine, but he vows to appeal

Judge Leslie A. Stroth of the New York State Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Morgan Carey failed to show his sister acted with 'actual malice'. He sued in May 2021 over her 2020 memoir 'The Meaning of Mariah Carey', which said he served prison time and supplied cocaine. The judge said his claim that she put 'commercial viability' before the truth fell short. The case was thrown out entirely.

One passage said Morgan 'discreetly supplied the beautiful people with their powdered party favors'.

Her lawyer John Rosenberg said the singer was 'gratified' that the claims were dismissed 'in their entirety'.

Morgan's lawyer Richard Altman called the ruling 'completely inconsistent with prior rulings in the case'.
