Mariah Carey wins dismissal of her brother's $20m defamation lawsuit over memoir claims he sold cocaine

Justice Leslie A. Stroth of the New York State Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Morgan Carey, 66, failed to prove 'actual malice' under New York's anti-SLAPP law. He sued in 2021 over the 2020 bestseller 'The Meaning of Mariah Carey'. His lawyer Richard Altman says they intend to appeal. Her lawyer John Rosenberg said the singer, 57, was 'gratified' by the ruling.

The memoir said Morgan 'discreetly supplied the beautiful people with their powdered party favors'.

He claimed she portrayed him as a 'physically violent man' who served prison time.

Judge: alleging 'ill will towards her brother' falls short of proving malice.
