Mary Peltola was 'definitely aware' her campaign hunted for a second Dan Sullivan to split Alaska's Senate vote, ex-aide says
A covert Democratic scheme to recruit voter-confusion candidates in Alaska began in summer 2025, when a Peltola staffer was directed to trawl state voter rolls for every Alaskan named Dan Sullivan. The plan succeeded when retired teacher Dan J. Sullivan, of the fishing village of Petersburg, filed as a Senate candidate — his name almost identical to Republican incumbent Dan S. Sullivan. Peltola's former campaign manager Elisa Rios has stated that Peltola herself was "definitely aware" of the operation, contradicting months of official denials.
The covert effort, internally dubbed the 'Ballot Composition Project', also involved a mysterious operative who traversed Alaska under assumed names recruiting spoiler candidates.
Trump has called the scheme 'a fraud on the American public' and demanded Peltola be removed from the ballot alongside 'Fake Dan Sullivan'.
The DOJ is already in court arguing that a narrow Peltola win would be a 'tainted victory', with Judge Sharon Gleason presiding on an emergency schedule.
