Masked Israeli settlers attack European diplomats in the West Bank as a French mayor is assaulted
Belgium's consul general, French and Polish diplomats and Catholic representatives were targeted in the village of Taybeh, where a Belgian car was damaged. Belgian foreign minister Maxime Prevot blamed Israel's 'illegal settlement policy' and vowed to push for tougher EU sanctions. Israel's military called it a 'severe act of violence' and police opened an inquiry. Benjamin Netanyahu's office calls it part of a 'smear' campaign.
At least four people have died and over 100 have been injured since the olive harvest began.
A Washington Post photographer was seriously injured in a separate settler attack on Friday.
Prevot said: 'Impunity for violent settlers must end.'
