Masked predator jailed 23 years after breaking into family home and standing over 13-year-old girl's bed with cable ties and duct tape

Christopher Buxey, 43, from Gosport, has been handed 18 years in prison plus five on licence after breaking into a family home in Rogate, Sussex, at 3am and standing over a 13-year-old girl's bed in a balaclava and latex gloves, pre-looped cable ties in hand. The girl woke and fought him off with her feet as her screams brought her parents running; they held him until police arrived.

Ten more prepared cable ties hung from a carabiner on his belt, plus a rucksack of similar kit.

Buxey assaulted the girl's parents trying to flee, then identified himself to the family he knew.

Attempted kidnap was denied; the court accepted his plea to the lesser attempted false imprisonment charge.
