Melania Trump's ceasefire in Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky holds 30 hours without a single breach, officials say
Devastation in Russian-occupied Oleshky, where a local ceasefire took effect at 3am to clear the way for an aid mission for the 6,000 people, including 200 children, trapped and desperately short of food and medicine.Melania Trump as Ukraine's Dmytro Lubinets said Kyiv is honouring its commitments despite Russian missiles striking the city's Southern Bridge and metro infrastructure the same morning the truce…
A 30-hour stretch of the Oleshky ceasefire has passed without any reported violations, with both parties confirming full compliance. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman, stated that Russian forces had not advanced, seized territory, or improved their positions since the truce came into effect at 4am Moscow time on Tuesday. Brokered by First Lady Melania Trump after weeks of secret talks with officials on both sides, the agreement was signed on 23 October by Russia's human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova and Lubinets, and runs until 22:59 on Sunday 1 November to allow humanitarian aid and evacuations for around 2,000 residents trapped in the city.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the operation was proceeding 'according to plan' and paid tribute to Melania Trump's representatives.
Ukraine's foreign minister said if the ceasefire holds, it could 'pave the way for other steps in the peace process.'
Evacuees face a grim choice: some fear Russia will search their phones for signs of Ukrainian sympathy, risking imprisonment.
