Melania Trump's Oleshky ceasefire holds for 30 hours without a single breach as hungry Ukrainians await aid and evacuation
Devastation in Russian-occupied Oleshky, where a local ceasefire took effect at 3am to clear the way for an aid mission for the 6,000 people, including 200 children, trapped and desperately short of food and medicine.Melania Trump as Ukraine's Dmytro Lubinets said Kyiv is honouring its commitments despite Russian missiles striking the city's Southern Bridge and metro infrastructure the same morning the truce…
The Kherson region ceasefire brokered by first lady Melania Trump has passed its first 30 hours without a single violation, with both Russia and Ukraine's human rights ombudsmen confirming compliance on Wednesday. Trump spent weeks secretly moderating between Russian and Ukrainian officials, winning the trust of both governments to serve as their exclusive intermediary. The truce — described by Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia as the "largest de-escalation since 2022" — runs until 22:59 on Sunday November 1.
The ceasefire's geographic area has expanded beyond Oleshky across the wider Kherson region to allow humanitarian convoys safe passage.
Around 2,000 residents remain in Oleshky, some cooking garden weeds to survive; evacuations are planned for Friday for those wishing to leave.
Trump told X the timing was "accelerated two days ahead of schedule to protect the safety of civilians," with Russian General Valery Gerasimov confirming the expanded zone.
