Melania Trump's localised ceasefire in the Russian-occupied southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky has passed its first 30 hours without a single violation, with both Russian and Ukrainian officials confirming the truce is holding. Trump told reporters on Wednesday that a three-way meeting between himself, Putin and Zelensky will take place "very soon," with Zelensky separately revealing direct Russia-Ukraine talks could begin as early as Sunday. The six-day pause runs until 22:59 on November 1, allowing food, medicine and civilian evacuations into a city of roughly 2,000 residents.
Melania spent weeks as the "exclusive intermediary" between Moscow and Kyiv, with the deal signed in Belarus on October 23 by both nations' human rights commissioners.
Zelensky has said that Putin "is a threat to the entire world" and that Trump needs to call him out directly.
The White House is also quietly weighing lifting sanctions on Russia's Direct Investment Fund — branded a "slush fund" for Putin — as part of broader efforts to end the war.
