Starving elderly in Russian-occupied Oleshky, Ukraine, will be offered evacuation under a ceasefire brokered by Melania Trump
Around 2,000 people are still trapped in Oleshky, a sharp fall from the roughly 24,000 who lived there before the war, and residents have reportedly resorted to eating dogs and grass to stay alive. A ceasefire beginning 29 October will allow aid to reach them via a designated safe corridor. The Kremlin confirmed the agreement on Friday. Melania Trump said that without her involvement, getting the elderly out 'would be impossible'.
Russia has agreed to trilateral peace talks with the US and Ukraine in the UAE next month.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called conditions in Oleshky this week 'genocide'.
US envoy Steve Witkoff hailed Vladimir Putin as a 'humanitarian' during his Russia visit.
