Melanie Lynskey is to play Australian mushroom murderer Erin Patterson in a new drama, days before the alleged killer's appeal ruling

Melanie Lynskey, 49, the New Zealand-born 'Yellowjackets' star, will take the lead in 'Mushroom Murders: There's More to Unearth', a six-part Paramount+ limited series announced at the combined Paramount+ and Network 10 Upfronts in Melbourne on Wednesday. The show will reconstruct the 97 days between a beef Wellington lunch in Leongatha, Victoria, and Patterson's arrest, with Lynskey also serving as executive producer. Patterson was convicted in 2025 of murdering three of her estranged husband's relatives and sentenced to life with a minimum of 33 years.

Victoria's Court of Appeal is expected to rule on Patterson's appeal against her convictions this Friday.

Some viewers called the drama 'too soon', with one noting an appeal is still under way and a victim still recovering.
