Melbourne Islamic preacher Abu Ahmad, associated with the Al Bayyinah Islamic Centre in Springvale, told followers in a July sermon they were obliged to declare armed enmity against Jews and Christians. Ahmad's centre has received support from Sydney preacher Wisam Haddad, whose Al Madina Dawah Centre in Bankstown was reportedly attended by alleged Bondi shooter Naveed Akram, accused alongside his father of killing 15 people at a Chanukah event. The sermon — posted to the centre's own social media — has triggered calls for federal police to investigate and potential charges, coming ten months after one of Australia's worst alleged terror attacks.
One Nation's Pauline Hanson demanded action: 'Fifteen people were murdered at Bondi — how much more do Albanese and Burke need to hear?'
An affiliated account linked to Ahmad's centre previously posted sermons by Islamic State sympathisers before going inactive.
Family First's Lyle Shelton called on the Australian Federal Police to urgently investigate and charge Ahmad if the evidence establishes a criminal offence.
