Samuel Monroe Jr., 52, died on 26 August after a five-month hospitalisation triggered by a coccidioidal meningitis infection he reportedly contracted while filming in Las Vegas — a condition left untreated for eight months after multiple hospitals failed to diagnose it correctly. His death certificate lists respiratory failure as the primary cause, with sepsis pneumonia as a contributing factor. Monroe was buried at a Los Angeles cemetery, leaving behind three children.

By the time doctors identified the meningitis, the infection had spread to his spine and brain, forcing emergency procedures and repeated stints on life support.

Monroe's mother Joyce Patton and wife Shawna Stewart were locked in a court dispute over his conservatorship in his final days, with Stewart alleging the petition was driven by financial motives.

A fan who met Monroe outside a grocery store in 2015 remembered him as 'kind' and 'humble' — a tribute his mother shared publicly on Facebook after his death.
