A South Carolina mental health facility failed to give Elena Moore her prescribed heart medication during an involuntary commitment in the days before she disappeared and died, Lexington County's coroner announced Friday. Moore, 39, a personal trainer, suffered from cardiac dysrhythmia and premature ventricular contractions; her death was ruled natural, with no evidence of trauma, homicide or foul play. Coroner Margaret Fisher called it a "very tragic and complicated case" and said Moore's family had consented to the full release of details.
Moore was discharged from the unnamed facility on 11 June, put in a taxi and taken to the wrong address, ultimately ending up at a CVS Pharmacy, where she told staff the driver had been stalking her.
She departed carrying four bottles of wine, made her way through a Planet Fitness and entered the woods behind it; her body was found six days later on 17 June, with alcohol the only substance detected in her system.
Fisher cleared Moore's husband, Brannon Slice, of any wrongdoing, calling him 'the only person that really tried to help this girl get help through the system.'
