PC Fiona Shaik Umar won the Outstanding Contribution to Women in Policing Award at the Police Federation conference on Wednesday. She led the Hijab Project, which introduced new uniform options for Muslim women officers. Sir Mark Rowley said the award sparked a racist and misogynistic 'online tirade'. A 2024 photo of her posing with a weapon also resurfaced online.

Others online noted the weapon had no magazine and its ammunition feeder was blocked.

Rowley said: 'This is a vile world to be a public servant in.'
