Dense fog reduced visibility to below 100 metres across central and southern England on Friday morning, disrupting the rush hour commute across 28 areas under a Met Office yellow warning until 10am. Meteorologist Honor Criswick warned the fog is set to return on Friday evening, becoming more widespread across eastern England, with further patches expected through the weekend. Temperatures are expected to sit between 13C and 16C once skies clear on Friday afternoon.

Flights, trains and buses all face potential delays, with Stansted and Heathrow airports under the warning zone.

High pressure building into early November means overnight and morning fog is likely to recur, particularly in eastern parts of the country.

BBC weather forecaster Sarah Keith-Lucas said fog 'could be quite dense and slow to clear across central and eastern England.'
